The belief that Jon “Bones” Jones is the future of the UFC light heavyweight division may not yet have been entirely confirmed, but his first round technical knockout victory over Brandon Vera at “UFC on Versus 1” was certainly another step towards achieving the lofty expectations set before him.
Vera was matched up against Jones in the evening’s main event and was billed as the dynamic 205-pounder’s first big test against a fighter with name recognition. However, the only damage “The Truth” managed to put on his opponent was an illegal upkick to a downed Jones when “Bones” was in his guard.
The UFC makes its way onto the Versus network tonight at 9 p.m. ET with UFC Live: “Vera vs. Jones” from Broomfield, Colorado. The evening’s card is headlined by a light heavyweight match between fast-rising prospect Jon “Bones” Jones and Brandon “The Truth” Vera.
But that is not all the card has to offer, as three other explosive match ups will be aired live on Versus preceding the main event. Beginning the televised card will be a middleweight brawl between James “The Sandman” Irvin and Alessio Sakara. Following that fight is a heavyweight bout between Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello and Cheick Kongo. In the evening’s co-main event, rising heavyweight sensation Junior dos Santos will look to continue his climb up the ranks with a victory over Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Gabriel Gonzaga.
The televised portion begins at 9 p.m. ET on Versus. Continue reading for both preliminary and main card results as they happen.
The UFC has made the move to Broomfield, Colorado this weekend for a stacked card set for free television. The card, which is headlined by a light heavyweight match up between Jon Jones and Brandon Vera, will be aired live on the Versus Network at 9 p.m. ET this Sunday night, March 21.
The weigh-ins for the event took place earlier this evening and are now in the books. Take a look at the official results below.
After a drama-filled tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter, which featured Rashad Evans and Quinton Jackson as coaches, the long-anticipated match up between the two former UFC light heavyweight champions was put on hold for “Rampage’s” film career. However, Jackson is back, and the match up is official.
The UFC announced today that the two 205-pound enemies will be looking to officially shut one another up at UFC 114 in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 29.
Join me as I give 10 Thoughts on the first UFC Blu-Ray release of 2010: “UFC: Best of 2009!” This is the third of the “Best of 200X” series that UFC has released since 2007, and with the success they had in 2009, it looks like this can easily be the best of the series. [About 10 Thoughts,] This may end up looking like an organized rant/event review/Blu-Ray review hybrid, but the purpose of this column is to give you an idea of what you are walking into before you make a commitment and buy it. After all, Blu-Rays seem to be getting more expensive day by day. Without further adieu, LET’S GET IT ON!

The list of respected and dangerous victims who have fallen under the rule of Georges St. Pierre, the current UFC welterweight champion, is impressive to say the least.
The worth of that list weighs heavily with names like Alves, Fitch, Hughes (2), Penn (2), and anyone else who dares dance with the devil known as “Rush.”
Las Vegas, NV (USA) – Canada will get their first dose of the Kimbo Slice phenomenon on Saturday, May 8th, when the Ultimate Fighter alumnus looks to make it 2-0 in the Octagon on the UFC 113: Machida vs Shogun 2 card at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
Slice (4-1), fresh off his three round unanimous decision victory over Houston Alexander at the TUF10 finale last December, will be in with a familiar foe on May 8th, as he takes on his Ultimate Fighter castmate, Matt Mitrione in a heavyweight bout made official today.
Mitrione (1-0), an NFL veteran, made his proper mixed martial arts debut on the TUF10 finale card and showed impressive poise and power as he knocked out Marcus Jones in the second round, and he hopes to make another statement when he squares off with Kimbo this spring.
Tickets for UFC 113 are on sale now and are priced at $600, $400, $250, $150, $100 and $50. Tickets are available at the Bell Centre box office, by phone at (514) 790-2525 / 1-877-668-8269 or at www.geg.ca.

It’s official: James “Lights Out” Toney, one of boxing’s modern day greats, is now a member of the UFC.
Of course, the UFC isn’t getting the James Toney that outclassed most of the best middleweights and super middleweights of his generation. They’re not even getting the post-prime Toney who floored, and ultimately beat, Vassiliy Jirov at cruiserweight or the one who humiliated a shot Evander Holyfield at heavyweight. But, nonetheless, Toney represents the biggest name to ever cross the imaginary border between boxing and mixed martial arts.
Toney’s been looking at a move to the UFC for a few years now, claiming that he just can’t get the big fights in boxing.
Technically, he’s right; But, realistically, he just doesn’t have the juice anymore to beat the top dogs at heavyweight and lacks the draw to entice the young lions to try him out. So, with nowhere to go in the sport and his internal clock ticking away, he’s packed his bags for a try at the UFC octagon and one last power grab at making some real headlines.
UFC has responded to the Strikeforce show on CBS by announcing a competing show of their own.
Dana White confirmed today that UFC is running a show on April 17th, head-to-head with the announced Strikeforce show on CBS. There are no fights confirmed, although Matt Serra vs. Mike Swick is being finalized for the event. A fight between Wanderlei Silva vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama is not scheduled for the event.
The proposed UFC event would air on Spike TV. Strikeforce could move the date of the CBS show by a week, moving it head to head with the WEC PPV on April 24 from Sacramento.
