Floyd Mayweather Jr and Shane Mosley will fight on May 1 in boxing’s biggest fight so far in 2010. Naturally, HBO will give the pay-per-view event their 24/7 treatment.
24/7 is an award-winning series that chronicles two fighters as they each prepare for their superfight. The series began in 2007 prior to the bout between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
24/7 Mayweather/Mosley will begin on April 10 at 10pm ET. The second episode of the four-part series will air April 17 while the third episode is scheduled to begin on April 24. The last episode will air on April 30, the eve of fight night.

If you look around cyberspace these days, there has been a subtle shift in the public wind as it pertains to Antonio Margarito and his indefinite suspension from boxing. Margarito’s attempted use of illegal hand wraps for his January, 2009 contest with Shane Mosley seems a distant memory to some and, shockingly, a flat-out falsehood to more than a few.
A year ago, there was outrage and indignation in the public discourse. Now, articles are popping up in support of the return of Margarito’s license and all sorts of conspiracy theories are springing up that would have one re-think their stance on “The Tijuana Tornado.”
But, before we forgive and forget, let’s take a look at the night Antonio Margarito wanted on January 24th, 2009.
Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Shane Mosley: May 1st.
I dare you to hate on this one. Go ahead…I dare you.
While Manny Pacquiao is fighting Joshua Clottey, the guy who lost to the guy that he just blew away, Mayweather will be fighting the consensus number one welterweight in the world and a first ballot Hall of Famer.
Mayweather’s opponent is the same one who practically begged Pacquiao for a fight to no avail. Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, even said, “Shane came to the gym twice to ask me to let him fight Manny…I told him ‘no’ both times, and both times for the same two reasons: First, there isn’t enough money there, and second, you’re too good a fighter.”
Best of all, this fight was signed with no drama about fear of needles, superstitions and blood-letting; No weight stipulations and penalties and no petty lawsuits.
It’s official. Floyd Mayweather Jr has signed the contract to fight Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV on May 1. Mayweather was the last to sign, as Mosley had signed the contract five days ago.
This fight was put together after each man lost out on a fight with a different opponent. First, Floyd Mayweather Jr was unable to come to terms with Manny Pacquiao after a compromise could not be met regarding the drug testing for the fight. Then, Shane Mosley was scheduled to meet Andre Berto on Jan 30 but Berto had to withdraw after the loss of family members due to the earthquake in Haiti.
Shane Mosley has agreed to the random, Olympic-style drug testing that held up Mayweather’s fight with Pacquiao. Mayweather will also be subject to the random testing.

Floyd Mayweather Jr and Shane Mosley have agreed to terms on a fight for May 1, according to Mayweather’s adviser Leonard Ellerbe.
The contracts have not been signed as of yet, but all the deal points have been agreed to according to Ellerbe. The May 1 welterweight fight will be broadcast on HBO PPV and will be at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV. Mosley’s WBA title will be on the line.
Shane Mosley also agreed to the random, Olympic-style drug testing that ended up being the breaking point in the negotiations between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
Ellerbe expects the contracts to be signed within a few days, and an official announcement of the fight next week.
Shane Mosley is once again without an opponent. After spending most of 2009 trying to lure Floyd Mayweather Jr or Manny Pacquiao into a superfight, Shane Mosley settled for Andre Berto in a bout that was scheduled for January 30. Andre Berto decided to drop out of the fight due to the earthquakes that devastated Haiti, as Berto lost family members in the disaster.
Shane Mosley once again finds himself without an opponent. Read on to see which three fighters Mosley should take aim at next.
...read full article...Andre Berto has withdrawn from his Jan 30 welterweight title defense against Shane Mosley. Berto, who has many family members in Haiti, cited the recent earthquake as his reason for pulling out.
“As a result of this disaster, I am mentally and physically exhausted and therefore I have no choice but to withdraw from my bout,” Berto said in a statement. “The rebuilding of Haiti is not something that will happen overnight, but I am fully dedicated to helping the Haitian people recover from this catastrophic event.”
Andre Berto represented Haiti in the 2004 Olympics. Both of his parents are of Haitian descent.
Rumors have already placed Shane Mosley in a potential matchup with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Both are looking for opponents and Richard Schaefer, Golden Boy promoter, is already working on putting that fight together.
“Mayweather is interested and so, of course, is Shane,” Schaefer said. “Now it’s a matter of negotiating the right deal structure that makes everyone happy.”
In the absence of Pacquiao-Mayweather, a Mosley-Mayweather bout is just about the best boxing fans could hope for.
