UFC 99 Recap

Well I have to say this card wasn't what I expected. I was one of a minority of people who thought this card was worthy of a PPV. However, with hindsight being 20/20, I don't believe it lived up to expectations. »»

UFC 99: The Aftermath

The UFC’s first fight card in Germany is in the books and while it was not a spectacular card, it satisfied. In the main event, Rich Franklin was able to navigate his way toward a decision win. Franklin’s world will now revolve around making a run at the 205 pound title. While Franklin is a legitimate Top 10 light heavyweight some may be hard pressed to believe he can win over the Rampage Jackson’s and Rashad Evan’s of the division. And it seems preposterous at this point to think that Franklin could last long against current kingpin Lyoto Machida. Despite that, Franklin can add spice to the division and finish out his career in hall-of-fame fashion. One opponent for Rick Franklin that would raise everyone’s eyebrows would be the much maligned Chuck Liddell. Dana White has remained adamant about Liddell retiring but this fight would be very marketable; one the fans would certainly love to see. If Liddell is not an option, Franklin could face off against dangerous Brazilian striker Luis Cane, a fighter who has worked his way into the top ten of the light heavyweight division. »»

Marcus Davis vs. Dan Hardy: Ill Intentions

When talking about the differences that separate Marcus "The Irish Hand Grenade" Davis and Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy the words bad blood come to mind.  Honestly though, bad blood doesn't do this match up an ounce of justice.  After cruising the Internet and researching some of the volleys and antics involved in this pre fight hype, one may struggle to truly encompass in words what is fueling the war between these two. The stage is set for a war that will surely deliver all it was cracked up to be.  Fueled by what appears to be a deep hatred by both men, escalated into an international event on PPV.  This one will definitely live up to the hype.  It could be a 20 second two piece and a biscuit ending with one man on the floor, or it could be a fourteen and half minute war ending up with one man on the floor.  »»

Mike Swick: 'Quick' and to the Point

It’s fair to say Mike Swick is on the brink of something big. After losing a hard fought decision to a physically superior Yushin Okami at UFC 69 as a middleweight he made the trek down to the welterweight level and has found a wealth of success in the process. “I learned a lot from the fight (with Okami). I felt in good shape. He was just big and he had really good positioning. I almost knocked him out in the second. In the third round I reversed him, passed his guard, and I ended the fight on top punching him. He had nothing left. It wasn’t the worst loss in the world,” said Swick. So far it is the best career decision he has made to date. The American Kickboxing Academy product has rattled off three consecutive victories since moving to the 170 pound limit over formidable contenders Josh Burkman, Marcus Davis, and most recently, Jonathan Goulet in December 2008 at UFC Fight Night 16.  As a result, he is knocking on the door for a potential title shot. »»

UFC 99 Preview

This Saturday the UFC makes its first trip to Germany as UFC 99 emanates live from the Lanxess Arena in Cologne. There has been a lot of controversy over there about the merits of the sport and the local government has gone so far as to prohibit minors from coming to the show. Fortunately this controversy has done little to mar my excitement across the pond about some potentially great fights. »»
