Manny Pacquiao is once again using his pull as one of the sport’s most lucrative fighters to enhance his status in its history – even at the risk of backfiring on him.

Now, the remorseless and blatant cheat who would have willingly gone out and bludgeoned Shane Mosley with loaded hand wraps, is in line for a major payday, major exposure and a major title.

Rafael knows what’s going on, but instead, pushes the “I have no idea what Mayweather’s problem is” angle.

UFC President Dana White had a stark warning for boxing, once again saying that if the sport doesn’t reform itself it will ‘die’. Amongst other things he talked about was the unwillingness of anyone to invest in growing the sport, the decline of the amateur game in America, the lack of quality fights on free [...]

For its long-term future, boxing needs Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather to face the likes of Andre Berto, Paul Williams and Timothy Bradley more than it needs them to fight each other.

Bob Arum addressed the media regarding the status of the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. Here are the bullet points from the 50-minute press conference:

To fight or not to fight? That is the question for Floyd Mayweather Jr.

This just in: “Writer, Paul Magno, and Shakira’s representatives come to terms for weekend-long sex romp…Shakira’s approval needed.”

Loose lips sink ships. Suddenly, the quiet Filipino star, who has let trainer Freddie Roach assume the burden of being the flapping gums behind the Pacquiao phenomenon, can’t seem to shut up. Every week, we see several direct quotes from Pacquiao, all disparaging Mayweather and the possibility of an upcoming mega-fight. It’s not Roach anymore. [...]

Quick, somebody inform Bob Arum and Team Pacquiao that they’ve dialed the wrong number and are not in negotiations with Team Mayweather after all. They’ve obviously reached an impostor who has somehow conned them into thinking that they are dealing with Floyd’s representatives. I mean, what else could be the answer? Bob Arum has been [...]

I don’t know of any real fight fans who actually like boxing’s four major sanctioning bodies (WBO, WBC, WBA, IBF).  As a matter of fact, hardcore fans are unanimous in their disgust for these “Alphabet Soup” Organizations. The laundry list of offenses is too long to detail in one short article, but with only their [...]

“Yesterday I was lying, but today I’m telling the truth.” — Bob Arum It’s become an inside joke among boxing fans. “There goes Arum again…he’s up to his old shenanigans.” This is usually accompanied by a shrug of the shoulders and a knowing smirk. Bob Arum is definitely another colorful character in a long line [...]

Manny Pacquiao will return to the ring in November, according to his chief financial adviser Michael Koncz. Pacquiao will again be fighting at Cowboys Stadium, the site of his March 13 victory over Joshua Clottey. Cowboys Stadium is holding both a November 6 or November 13 date for Pacquiao. “There is no named opponent yet, [...]

He may have nothing left to prove, but Floyd Mayweather Jr. still has one more fight left.

This past Saturday night, Floyd Mayweather Jr. got to once again prove why he is as good as he says he is. Mayweather’s unanimous decision win over Shane Mosley in Las Vegas was as easy as any of Mayweather’s recent fights. Mosley had a few brief moments early on, but nothing for an extended period of time. And once Mayweather got going, he stayed going.

Even with the win, and the vindication he received with it, Floyd Mayweather still has one more fight to fight. If he doesn’t, he knows (or should know) that the name of that fighter will follow him for some time: Manny Pacquiao. This fight almost happened earlier this year and I still believe it will happen in 2010. I’ll even specify a date: December 4th.

They said he didn’t take risks. They said he wouldn’t fight anyone who had a real chance of beating him. They were wrong. Despite the fact that Floyd Mayweather Jr. – undefeated in 41 fights now and a champion in five different weight classes – has beaten top level opposition his entire career, he still [...]

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has disposed of the most established and seasoned welterweight star in Shane Mosley. He even made it look easy. Mayweather’s attention must be again focused on Manny Pacquiao, a seven-division world champion. If Floyd really is all about the money then Manny Pacquiao is his Fort Knox.

The proposed fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao fell apart due to Floyd’s demands for a stricter drug testing provision than the Nevada State Athletic Commission requires. Mayweather stated after his win over Mosley that he will fight Pacquiao if the Philippine phenom agrees to random blood and urine testing. If Pacquiao does not comply with Mayweather’s drug testing demands, then Mayweather will not sign on for the fight.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. increased his star power with his convincing win over Shane Mosley. The win, in turn, only strengthened Mayweather’s stance over the random drug testing issue with Pacquiao. Mosley took the test with no complaints. The testing had no bearing on the result of his fight with Mayweather. It only insured that both men were fighting on an even playing field. In a fight with the magnitude of Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao, isn’t an even playing field all we ask?

For a fight to be labeled “The Event,” Saturday night’s sparring session turned out to be anything but. While none of the blame should be placed on Manny Pacquiao’s shoulders, Joshua Clottey certainly didn’t look like a prizefighter at all. With that said, here are five things I learned from Saturday night’s pay-per-view “event”.

Filipino journalist and commentator, Chino Trinidad, has found himself at the center of a manufactured controversy surrounding claims that Floyd Mayweather Jr’s publicist, Kelly Swanson, intentionally snubbed the Filipino media during the Los Angeles portion of the Mayweather-Mosley publicity tour. Trinidad alleges that he and another Filipino journalist were directly told by Swanson that the Philippine [...]
