Join me as I give 10 Thoughts on the first UFC Blu-Ray release of 2010: “UFC: Best of 2009!” This is the third of the “Best of 200X” series that UFC has released since 2007, and with the success they had in 2009, it looks like this can easily be the best of the series. [About 10 Thoughts,] This may end up looking like an organized rant/event review/Blu-Ray review hybrid, but the purpose of this column is to give you an idea of what you are walking into before you make a commitment and buy it. After all, Blu-Rays seem to be getting more expensive day by day. Without further adieu, LET’S GET IT ON!

Every company wants to hitch their wagon to a fighter with “charisma”, but which five have gotten the biggest push without the pedigree or skills to back it up?
5. Michael “The Count” Bisping (18 Wins, 2 Losses)
Even though “The Count” is one of the most popular and dangerous fighters to step into the UFC octagon from the United Kingdom, his legitimacy as a top-contender and a headliner should be questioned. Bisping’s impressive striking and mind-games may have won over fans, but he has never defeated an elite fighter. His two chances to prove he was a top-contender in both the light-heavyweight division and in the middleweight division failed miserably when he lost to Rashad Evans (unanimous decision) and Dan Henderson (knockout). Aside from the occasional highlight-knockout, the only reason Michael Bisping is popular is because he is the poster-boy for the UFC in the United Kingdom.

Categories include Fighter of the Year, Knockout of the Year, Submission of the Year, and several other important awards to give credit where credit is due.
The series will be broken down into four parts, with this section following up parts one and two with “Knockout of the Year” and “Submission of the Year”.
Join me as I take a look through ten years of mixed martial arts in this countdown of the top ten mixed martial artists of the 2000s.
10. Wanderlei Silva (22 Wins, 8 Losses, 1 Draw and 1 NC in the 2000s)
Wanderlei Silva was the PRIDE FC Middleweight Champion from 2001 to 2007, successfully defending his title four times in the process. That alone is a good enough reason as to why he belongs on this list, but it doesn’t stop there for “The Axe-Murderer”. Easily the craziest and most violent fighter in the sport (he has a tribal tattoo on the back of his head!), Wanderlei Silva was the king of PRIDE before Fedor arrived. Wanderlei is most known for his fights with Kazushi Sakuraba and Quinton Jackson in PRIDE FC, both of whom he dominated. The first time Silva saw defeat in the PRIDE Middleweight Division was two events prior to the folding of the company against Dan Henderson, a fight which Silva seemed to have the upper-hand. Wanderlei hopes to get back on track at UFC 110 against Michael Bisping.

Welcome to the first of six installments of “10 Thoughts on UFC: Ultimate 100 Greatest Fights”. This release has been a bit quiet with only a handful of people being aware of it, but the content of this set stands far above any other mixed-martial arts DVD/Blu-Ray release ever with six discs of jam-packed footage.
This Blu-Ray is based off the special that aired before UFC 100 on Spike TV that featured a countdown of 100 of the greatest UFC fights, as voted by the fans. But instead of a highlight show like the one that was presented on Spike TV, this Blu-Ray boxed-set features every single fight on the countdown in its entirety.
This may end up looking like an organized rant/event review/Blu-Ray review hybrid, but my sole purpose throughout this column is to give you a good idea of what you will be getting yourself into before you drop the cash. Please keep in mind I haven’t seen the special that aired on Spike TV, so I have no clue as to which fights are on the list. Now, join me as I give you 10 Thoughts on the first disc of this amazing collection. LET’S GET IT ON!

This is UFC’s first Blu-Ray with their new distribution partner Anchor Bay Entertainment. Basically, I’m just going to type out whatever thoughts pop into my mind. This may end up looking like an organized rant/event review/DVD review hybrid, but the purpose of this column is to give you an idea of what you are walking into before you make a commitment and buy it. At UFC 101, B.J. Penn is stepping into the octagon with millions of doubters peering over his shoulder. After losing to Georges St. Pierre at UFC 94 and due to the controversy that ensued, UFC fans feel that Penn has a statement to make. It seems as if Penn always has something to prove before every fight. Whether if it’s backing up his talk about being the best or proving whether or not he’s been dedicated to his training program, UFC Countdown is never a pleasant time for Penn. People seem to forget that he is not stepping into the cage against Georges St. Pierre, nor is he going up against a welterweight. Penn is returning to a weight class he has dominated since 2001: the lightweight division. As the reigning and defending UFC Lightweight Champion, B.J. Penn has nothing left to prove.
