A flyweight bout that will impact the rankings is the latest addition to the stacked UFC 166 fight card in October.
John Dodson (14-6, 3-1 UFC) will welcome the newest addition to the flyweight roster as he takes on Darrell Montague (13-2, 0-0 UFC) in what is likely the 13th and final bout scheduled for the card. UFC officials announced the bout on Saturday.
Dodson will be fighting for the first time since falling short in his attempt to become the UFC Flyweight Champion. Dodson dropped a decision to current champion Demetrious Johnson in the main event of UFC On FOX 6 in January. Dodson had won five straight fights prior to that defeat, which included winning season 14 of “The Ultimate Fighter” as a bantamweight when he defeated T.J. Dillashaw. Dodson also holds wins over Tim Elliott and Jussier Formiga in his UFC career.
Montague was regarded as the top flyweight not signed to the UFC prior to the announcement of this bout. His signing sees him get matched up with a former title contender in his debut. Montague will debut riding a four-fight win streak. The two losses in his career came to Ian McCall and Robbie Peralta, both fighters who are on the UFC roster. Ten of the 13 wins in Montague’s career have come by stoppage.
UFC 166 takes place on Oct. 19 from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The night’s main card airs on pay-per-view while preliminary card fights air on FOX Sports 1 and Facebook. UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez defends against Junior Dos Santos in a trilogy bout in the night’s main event.
