Brian Stann Walks Away – Marine, UFC Middleweight, WEC Champion Announces Retirement
by Scott "Kubryk" Sawitz on July 11, 2013

Brian Stann has just announced his retirement on a “Special” edition of the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. Citing family reasons, as well as injury ones, Stann has opted to retire from the UFC.

Stann ends his career on a two fight losing streak, having lost a decision to Michael Bisping and then by knockout against Wanderlei Silva in one of the best fights of the year. Stann came into the UFC after a brief reign as the WEC light heavyweight champion, walking away after having been among the Top 10 fighters in the world for a substantial period of time. He ends with a 12-6 record, most noted for being a genuine war hero in the U.S Marine Corps.

This comes on the heels of Stann’s announcement of being a color commentator for ACC Football Saturdays this fall as well as having been a commentator for the UFC and Golden Boy Boxing for Fox.
