An injury has forced Akira Corassani (11-3 1 NC, 2-0 UFC) out of the UFC’s FOX Sports 1 debut event in August from Boston. Corassani announced the injury news on his Twitter page.
Dear friends. I’ve been forced to pull out of the fight in August due to an injury that makes me train at 60% at most. Thanks all, much love

Stepping in for Corassani will be Steven Siler (22-10, 4-1 UFC), who will take on former WEC Featherweight Champion Mike Brown (26-8, 2-3 UFC) in a preliminary card bout at UFC On FOX Sports 1 #1. MMA Junkie first reported the news, which has since been confirmed by Siler.
Corassani was looking to retain his perfect record in the UFC after scoring wins over Andy Ogle and Robbie Peralta. Corassani came to the UFC through competing on season 14 of “The Ultimate Fighter”, which also featured the man replacing him in this bout, Siler.
Siler has won four of his five UFC bouts. He started his UFC career with three straight wins, taking fights over Josh Clopton, Cole Miller and Joey Gambino. The win streak was halted when he lost a unanimous decision to Darren Elkins at UFC 154 in November. Siler got back into the win column by scoring a unanimous decision over Kurt Holobaugh at UFC 159 in April.
Brown had flirted with retirement before deciding that he would continue to compete in the sport. He will be returning riding a two-fight win streak. He last fought at UFC 146 in May 2012 where he defeated Daniel Pineda by unanimous decision. He also holds a unanimous decision win over Nam Phan during his current win streak, which came at UFC 133 in August 2011. Brown is just 4-3 since losing the WEC Featherweight Championship to current UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo in November 2009.
UFC On FOX Sports 1 #1 takes place on August 17 from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua takes on two-division title challenger Chael Sonnen in the night’s five-round main event.
