Chad Mendes vs. Clay Guida slated for UFC 164
by Ryan Frederick on May 29, 2013

A featherweight bout between contenders Chad Mendes (14-1, 5-1 UFC) and Clay Guida (30-13, 10-7 UFC) has been rescheduled for UFC 164 in August. UFC officials officially confirmed the bout, which was first reported on the May 21 edition of UFC Tonight.

Mendes and Guida were originally scheduled to meet at UFC On FOX 7 in April, but Guida was forced out of the bout due to injury a little over a month prior to the event. Mendes ended up facing Darren Elkins, and he scored his third consecutive win after knocking out Elkins in the first round. Mendes has won all three bouts by first-round knockout, and he has spent just 3:34 inside the Octagon over his last three fights.

Mendes’ three-fight win streak comes following the first-and-only loss of his career, which came to Jose Aldo in a UFC Featherweight Championship bout at UFC 142 in January 2012.

Guida is looking to score his second straight win since moving down to the featherweight division following a 16-fight run in the UFC’s lightweight division. Guida scored a decision win over Hatsu Hioki at UFC On FOX 6 in January, which ended a two-fight losing skid.

Guida does hold a win at 155 pounds over Anthony Pettis, who meets Aldo for the 145-pound championship in August. A win by both could lead to a rematch between the two for the championship.

UFC 164 takes place on August 31 from the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A main event for the card has yet to be announced.
