Chad Mendes Pulled From UFC 157
by Ryan Frederick on February 11, 2013

After Manny Gamburyan pulled out of next weekend’s UFC 157 event due to multiple injuries, it left former UFC Featherweight Title challenger Chad Mendes without an opponent. After being unable to score an opponent, Mendes has confirmed that he has been pulled from the event as well.

Mendes posted the news on his Twitter account on Sunday night.

“Well guys it looks like I’m off the Anaheim card. Sucks pretty bad. I’ll keep everyone updated with what I find out. Sorry. Manny was injured and no one would step up,” wrote Mendes.

Mendes had called out Ricardo Lamas to take the fight, but Lamas responded to Mendes that he has a fight in May that he has accepted.

Another interesting tidbit in the situation is that Josh Koscheck sent out a tweet stating that Justin Wilcox said he would fight Mendes but that the fight was denied by the UFC, though that has not been confirmed.

Mendes vs. Gamburyan was slated for the pay-per-view portion of UFC 157. A fight will likely be moved from the FX portion to the main card. UFC 157 takes place on February 23 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California and is headlined by Ronda Rousey taking on Liz Carmouche.
