Gold Medal Winning Wrestler Henry Cejudo Transitioning to MMA
by Scott "Kubryk" Sawitz on January 30, 2013

Univision is reporting, with an interview from the man nonetheless, that 2008 Olympic Freestyle Wrestling Gold Medal Winner Henry Cejudo is moving on from his wrestling career into MMA officially.

Cejudo, who retired after the 2012 Olympic trials, announced that he was going to be making his fighting debut on March 2nd. No opponent, promotion or weight class has been announced on that as well.

Kubryk’s Analysis: This is a MASSIVE story for one major, major reason: Henry Cejudo is an elite wrestler on the international level moving into MMA at the peak of his athletic career. Cejudo, who won Gold at 21, is now 25. He could still have one or two more Olympic runs in him on a time scale, of course, but Cejudo’s rumored lack of training between each Olympic games has been something noticeable. The question becomes how much he’s been training for MMA as opposed to wrestling between the Olympic trials and now hasn’t come out, either. There are tons of questions that need good answers to them and we’ll find out sooner than later, hopefully.

The key is that he’s a world class wrestler in his prime moving over into MMA.
