Todd Duffee Pulls out of DREAM card 5 Days Before Fight
by Chris Roberts on July 11, 2011

The oft troubled heavyweight Todd Duffee has hit another roadblock on his way back to the top as an undisclosed injury has forced him out of his scheduled fight with Nick Gaston. The fight which was to take place at DREAM: Fight for Japan Final this coming Saturday has been totally scratched from the card due to Duffee’s inability to compete. It would have been Duffee’s first fight since getting knocked out by Alistair Overeem in December and his second since being released by the UFC last fall.

Duffee rose to prominence in August 2009 at UFC 102 when he scored the fastest knockout in UFC history over Tim Hague. After that, however, it was all downhill. He next fought Mike Russow at UFC 114 and after two and a half rounds of sheer dominance got caught with a miraculous right that knocked him cold. He was next booked to fight Jon Madsen at UFC 121 but he pulled out due to an injury. It was the second time he had done so in his short UFC career and shortly thereafter he was released from the company. Dana White later said that it was due to an attitude problem though rumors also circulated that pointed towards his difficulty in getting over his father’s death and his habit of constantly disparaging his financial status.

No word yet on whether the fight would be tried again at a later date or if these two fighters will be given new opponents.
