After easily defeating Juan Diaz last month in a pay-per-view rematch of the 2009 Fight of the Year, Juan Manuel Marquez had a decision to make about his future. After talking with Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, Juan Manuel Marquez has made up his mind.

According to Dan Rafael at ESPN.com, Juan Manuel Marquez will stay at 135 pounds, in lieu of moving up to light welterweight for a proposed bout with Amir Khan that if Marquez won, would make him the first Mexican fighter to win world titles in four different weight classes.

With the decision to stay a lightweight, Juan Manuel Marquez turns his attention to mandatory title challenger Michael Katsidis.

“So now we are going to try to put together the deal for Marquez and Katsidis. Hell of a fight. Toe to toe. Mano a mano,” Schaefer said. “This is a great fight. I’m excited for the fighters and the fans as well. This is going to be non-stop action. Pound for pound, these are two of the most exciting fighters in boxing.”

HBO has set a November 27 date for Juan Manuel Marquez’s next fight.

Now that Amir Khan is without an opponent, Golden Boy will begin talks with Marcos Maidana for an Amir Khan fight that is being held by HBO for December 11.
