UFC 111: ‘St. Pierre vs. Hardy’ Fight Bonuses
by Nate Lawson on March 28, 2010

UFC 111 is in the books from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The ten-fight card featured a total of two knockouts, four decisions, one disqualification, and three submissions. However, four of the fighters from this evening’s card went above and beyond the others to gain a nice $65,000 bonus.

The “Knockout of the Night” was hardly a difficult call. Shane Carwin grabbed the 65 grand after decimating former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir in the first round. But the win did not gain Carwin the appealing bonus, as the heavyweight earned the division’s interim title and a shot at returning heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.

The “Submission of the Night” went to Kurt “Batman” Pellegrino, who slapped on a nice rear naked choke in the second round of his lightweight match up with Fabricio Camoes. The grappling battle was a nice addition to the main card, and certainly gained the interest of commentator Joe Rogan. Pellegrino also picks up the 65 grand for his efforts.

Unlike the first two awards, the “Fight of the Night” came off the evening’s preliminary card. Jared Hamman and Rodney Wallace slugged it out for three rounds, giving the early arrivals reason to cheer. Although they battled each other, the two teamed up for $65,000 a piece. A nice bonus for two guys who probably were not walking home with large paychecks in the first place.
