March 26 ESPN Twinbill Called Off
by Trent Pusey on March 18, 2010

The championship doubleheader scheduled for the March 26 edition of ESPN Friday Night Fights has been canceled. Scheduled for the event was a cruiserweight title bout pitting Steve Cunningham against Matt Godfrey as well as a light middleweight championship fight between Cory Spinks and Cornelius “K-9″ Bundrage.

The card was called off when the event’s promoter, Don King, could not reach a contractual agreement for the fights with ESPN. During the negotiations, the proposed site for the fights, Treasure Island in Las Vegas, was booked by another person. King felt it too late to look for a new venue so he opted for postponement. King hopes to work something out for the future with ESPN.

This is unfortunate news as it was a doubleheader that I was personally looking forward to. Friday Night Fights has been putting out a lot of quality programming lately. Hopefully this will be only a minor setback in what has been a good run from ESPN boxing.
