Allan Green Replaces Jermain Taylor In Super Six
By Trent Pusey - January 24, 2010 | Email the author

Things worked out pretty well for Allan Green. With Jermain Taylor announcing his departure from Showtime’s Super Six World Boxing Classic last week, a spot was suddenly open in the tournament. Allan Green was rumored to be in line for the opening, provided he defeat Sakio Bika in February. The Green-Bika fight is now scrapped and Allan Green has been announced as the sixth man in the Super Six tournament.

Allan Green not only gains entrance into the high-profile tournament, but his first fight will be for the WBA super middleweight title held by Andre Ward. The fight is scheduled for April 17 in Oakland, CA.

  1. Allen Green is dangerous if motivated, but He’s NEVER really seemed motivated. He got beat by Edison Miranda and everyone else in the turny except maybe Derrel would or have owned Miranda. I think Green is either a easy decision victory for Ward or a KO loss (much less likely)

  2. Honestly, I think a fight with Bika could have gone either way. Green was fortunate things with Bika fell apart. Green has a lot to prove in this tournament.

  3. Green didn’t get lucky at all. He was offered the spot in the tournament a long time ago. He was supposed to fight on the undercard of Mayweather/Marquez but pulled out to fight DeLeon on Showtime. The trade off for Green was that he would be the first replacement fighter for the tournament. When Taylor got knocked out, there was alot of talk about who might replace him, or the box off with Bika, but this decision was made a long time ago and Green gave up some prime exposure with HBO PPV to get this shot.

  4. I see your point. I was just saying that Bika-Green being a “play-in game” was not a sure win for Green. But if Green was already promised the spot then that fight was a moot point anyway.

It’s a pretty sweet deal for Green as he gets a title shot in his first Super Six bout.

  5. This is a sad turn of events. Green is weak. The fight against Miranda was awful to watch. That power all newspapers speak off was nowhere to be seen. I mean he connected but Miranda stood… Sooo…. yeah….

Add to that the son of god defeated by essentially wining every round (almost)…yeah…

I don`t see how this was a good choice. But in all honesty all the possible replacements sucked. In the supermiddle weight portion all the valid choices were either already in the tournament or with HBO (i.e. Lucian Bute). In the middleweights (well you have the king that transfered) but the rest bah… not that hot. Maybe Pavlik but it was impossible for him (contractual arrangements). So Green was really all that was left in the bottom of the jar.

SOG will either win every single round in crushing UD. Or if Thor becomes panicy and tries to KO him out of desperation since he will be running out of runs.. Ward may slip him a KO.. however the chances of that happening are slim.

Bad intentions should really quit the sport. No point in him being humiliated every fight now. I mean his next might kill him…

  7. Green was sick in the Miranda fight. Even Miranda said in a interview after that fight that he did`nt think that Green was 100%,Allan Green can punch so he has a chance to beat anyone,if he is motivated.
