Anderson Silva out of UFC 109 bout with Vitor Belfort

After blasting through Forrest Griffin at UFC 101: “Declaration”, Anderson Silva was set to defend his seemingly untouchable UFC middleweight title against the returning “Phenom”, Vitor Belfort.

However, after rumors of the fight making the UFC 108 bill falling through, the bout was tentatively rumored for UFC 109. According to aroundtheoctagon.com, the middleweight title won’t be on that card either.

Silva is still recovery from surgery he had several months ago, and the recovery is going much slower than anyone had hoped or anticipated. There is no further news as to whether or not Belfort will still fight on the card. After expressing that he felt he needed more fights before taking on Silva, perhaps “The Phenom” will get his wish.

This bout is just another main event that will be absent from the early-2010 UFC fight cards. The promotion will once again have to prove its versatility as it appears both UFC 108 and UFC 109 will be without championship headliners.

  1. I have no interest in Silva vs. Belfort no matter how the UFC decide to dress it up.
That fight is a joke, I mean, Belfort hasn’t even fought at Middleweight so how can he be given a title shot?
