This may be the only article I've read that calls into question MP's 7-Division Titles record.

Using a "slight blemish" to invalidate a welterweight fight is a bit of a stretch, wouldn't you say? If both agreed at 145 then that would be binding on both parties. But let's not presume to know the contract particulars if either party goes over 145.

Even if Cotto weighed 147, all that may mean is that he'll pay the penalty clause. The fight may still continue, and I'm pretty sure it will anyway.

Cotto could have elected to weigh 147 and pay the contract penalty clause like PBF did and the WBO wouldn't care a bit. It IS a legit welterweight fight any which way you look at it.

Um, Corey, get it right. A welterweight fight is anywhere above 140 and below 147 under any circumstances. It does not have to be at the maximum 147. If Cotto didn't want to fight at 145, he didn't have to. Pacquiao wasn't a mandatory opponent and Cotto wasn't obligated to fight him. Cotto chose to do it because it made sense and A LOT of money. The WBO Welterweight title was on the line because it was a WELTERWEIGHT fight! Cotto was very professional and made no beef about having to drop the extra two pounds because he did it, did it willingly, and accomplished it, unlike Mayweather who was SUPPOSED to fight Marquez at 144 and purposely ignored it as if he didn't need any more advantages. Cotto was very gracious in defeat and didn't complain about losing two extra pounds so you bringing it up is irrelevant. Give Pacquiao his due credit like EVERY writer (like the ones who get paid unlike you) has already. It was an epic night. This is in no way a tainted victory or a slight blemish because of the catchweight. The better fighter won that night and he is the first seven division champion as history was made that night.
