Thiago Alves out of UFC 107 rematch with Jon Fitch

Rumors have been circling about the rematch between Thiago Alves and Jon Fitch, which is set for UFC 107. According to AOL FanHouse, Alves has been forced out of the bout due to a knee injury. More specifically, he apparently has a torn posterior cruciate.

Fitch defeated Alves at Ultimate Fight Night 6 over three years ago, and each seemed ecstatic for a rematch to occur. However, the date will either have to be pushed back, or Fitch will need to find a new opponent for Dec. 12’s UFC 107.

Fitch is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Paulo Thiago at UFC 100. He has been working his way back to another shot at welterweight title-holder Georges St. Pierre.

Alves also fought on UFC 100, suffering a disappointing defeat at the hands of St. Pierre. The fight against Fitch was to be his first fight since the demolition St. Pierre put upon “The Pitbull”.
