Inside Fights has learned from sources close to the negotiations that former Ultimate Fighter contestant Sam Hoger has tentatively agreed to face Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem at an upcoming event.
Our source informed us that both fighters have verbally agreed to the deal. Bout agreements have not been distributed but are expected shortly.
Overeem (29-11-1 MMA) is considered one of the best strikers in mixed martial arts. He has experienced recent success with kickboxing in the K-1 organization.
We’ll have more on the story as it develops.
UPDATE: We’ve been told that the bout is “sometime in the next two weeks”, which means it’s not for a Shooto Japan card. It’s more likely that it’ll take place on the Golden Glory 10th Anniversary show on Oct. 17 in Holland.
