Silva, Belfort agree to bout at UFC 108
by Jeremy Botter on September 25, 2009

The L.A. Times reports that Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort have agreed to meet for Silva’s middleweight championship at UFC 108. The card will serve as the UFC’s traditional year-end show and will be held January 2nd, 2010.

Belfort defeated Rich Franklin in quick fashion at UFC 103 last weekend. After the show, Dana White informed the media that Belfort was next in line for the title shot, jumping ahead of both Dan Henderson and Nate Marquardt.

White has wanted to make this fight happen since July, so it’s no surprise that we’re seeing it. Both Henderson and Marquardt can lay claim to being the number one contender to Silva’s belt, but both men have already lost to Silva in title fights and the UFC isn’t keen on putting together rematches unless it’s guaranteed big business.

This one sure sounds like fun.

They should’ve let Rashad fight him then. They let Griffin fight him off a loss to Rashad. Why not Give Rashad a chance? It’s laughable to give Belfort this shot after 1 fight. Henderson fought him the best out of anyone else. Dan doesn’t get knocked out. If not Rashad, give it to him. This isn’t a weak fighting pool to choose from where you gotta give newcomers a shot right away. This is what Rampage was talking about.

Belfort should be considered old school UFC at this point. He represented the UFC in pride on numerious show and turnys and headlined many UFC shows against fighters like Ortiz and Randy

Belfort hasn’t fought there for about 5 years and was lost 3 out of his last 5 fights including 2 in a row. Would’ve been 3 if He didn’t cut Couture’s eyelid.Beating Rich who is on the downside doesn’t warrant a title shot. Not after the first fight. He beat Matt Lindland, a has been. Terry Martin, a guy kicked outta UFC. He really beat no one worth mentioning since he beat Couture, which was a fluke and until he beat Franklin. Belfort is extremely fast and dangerous. I think he can be great if he keeps his mind right, but not with his track record since coming back. Not after beating Franklin. If that’s the case, Henderson beat Franklin AND Bisping, not to mention fought Silva better than anyone else. I’m rooting for Vitor, but it’s lookin like title shots are easy to get if you are a good fighter coming in and winning your first fight. Kinda like Rampage, Lesnar, and now Vitor.. It looks like people want to see Silva get competition so bad that they are ok with anyone fighting him. I don’t want to see what happened to Griffin happen again. Just thinking cautious.
