By Jeremy Botter - September 25, 2009 | Email the author

After days of speculation, the real number has finally been revealed: the Floyd Mayweather/Juan Manuel Marquez bout from last weekend did slightly more than one million pay per view buys. It accounted for $52 million pay per view revenue, with the lions share going to Mayweather.

  1. Boxing is just like the WWF, made-up. I saw the fight, yes he won by decision, a cream would have been a clear knockout, did not happen. Floyd Mayweather maybe the best boxer of all time to beat up on washed up fighters. So Floyd Mayweather, did not make the weight for the fight, so he heavier than the weight class that he is fighting in, and his opponent was older, shorter and weigh less. Are we impressed that he won, what a charade. Had we seen him come back and defeat Pacman, Cotto, Mosley or Margarito, then maybe he would deserve our attention, till then, snore, snore. Now we find out that this piece of work owes our government millions of dollars. Why should we believe this guy? I guess the rumors are true that he did everything to avoid fighting Antonio Margarito, before his unexpected first retirement, chicken.

  2. Just a quick response to the comment before mine – Floyd Mayweather, Jr is NOT, I repeat NOT even “perhaps” the best boxer of all-time. Boxing is nowhere near where it was in the 80′s when you had Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Mike Tyson, Julio Ceasar Chavez… who has Mayweather ever fought up to that Caliber? An over the hill “Golden Boy?”

He didn’t even want to fight Manny Pacquiao for supposedly promotional reasons, but that’s crap. Dude says he’s the best, yet he’s fighting people who don’t even belong in the ring with him.

Not to mention that I HATE, I repeat HATE what he said about MMA being a white man’s sport with no blacks, mexicans, asians, etc… Just proves how out of touch he really is. MMA has come a long way, not to mention that MMA had it’s precursors in countries like Japan, Brazil, Thailand. All the core disciplines, or most of the core disciplines, don’t have their origins in the states, and MMA is a truly international sport, not just in method, but their competitors come from all walks of life.

Mark my words, Boxing is going down. MMA is only coming up, and a big mouthed BOY trying to talk like a man, and fighting competition lesser than he ought to be – just sad, and won’t change the FACTS. Boxing is on its way out.

  3. I hope this situation has helped Mayweather grow-up somewhat and realized that as adults there are consequences for our actions. Whether its paying your taxes or making the weight to fulfill a signed contract. Lets hope.
